Ink Play

My series of “Ink Play” paintings are a mix of intuitive brushstrokes and active splatters, combined with spontaneous natural details.

These pieces are in part created using a variety of traditional and hand-made, bizarre brushes.

Bizarre Brushes 1

“A brush made out of a found stick, yarn, and thread was used in Web of Wonder to create organic lines of ink. The variety of line weights and character brought an intriguing sense of depth to the piece as I created it.”

Velvet Dreams

2025

India ink and white pencil on paper

“In Velvet Dreams, the bizarre “brush” that I used was actually a pushpin. The sharp point allowed me to create texture by scratching the paper, allowing fibers to appear as highlights in the piece.”

Cellular Abstraction

A series of abstract drawings that mimic natural life under a microscope, revealing a sense of peaceful complexity.

“To magnify details of the drawing itself, the audience gains vulnerable insight to my making of the piece."

This ongoing series currently consists of 3 parts, using one medium for the entirety of each separate piece: graphite, color pencil, charcoal.
